Blog Post #6

My role in our group is to cover the background and context of our issue. We also chose to focus on the environmental aspect of our issue. I'm also sure that this will continue to be edited as my group sees fit so I can ensure I cover all the necessary parts of the pollution and background aspect as I coordinate more with Julia. One of the major issues with fast fashion is the ocean pollution it creates from textile dyeing. Textile dyeing is the process of putting color into the clothes being produced. Not only does this process cause a huge waste in water which Julia will cover but the chemicals used to dye the clothes often end up in the ocean or other waters. Bangladesh follows China for the world's largest manufacturing of clothing according to CNN. However, something important to note about Bangladesh is that their laws and regulations for sustainable production of clothing are little to none. Their minister of environment and climate change has spoken in the past claimin...

Blog Post #5

In my group we all investigated the stakeholders for fast fashion. However, we came to the consensus that evaluating fast fashion's effect on the environment would be best for the proposal and the documentary. This is something I have a lot of research on since I had the environmentalist stakeholder. Something important to consider when doing the environmental side of this issue is the feasibility of a call to action. My group needs to keep in mind that as 3 freshman in college we don't really have much sway in what we say. Therefore, we should probably try to look into local organizations with similar ideas to improving the environment as a way to create a plan to make a change. Other than this, the objectives for our documentary should also aim to educate the class/public about the issue of fast fashion. That way, even if there isn't anything tangible we can do as 3 group members, we are introducing the class to the issue so they can be mindful in their purchases as well ...

Blog Post #4, Revision :)

On Friday I was able to hear from 2 different perspectives (Nick and Isabella) about my essay and possible revisions or things to keep the same. One of the first things I wrote down was the both people thought I did a sufficient job of identifying my audience and how each article spoke to them and used certain rhetoric to speak to them. However, although I identified the audience for both articles, just this did not make my paragraphs seem to flow well together. A comment was made that there seemed to be a sharp break or disconnection between by 2 article analyses. I think since this was my rough draft, this should be something to not be super concerned about as a final draft will be more polished and should be more fluid. I'm also not too sure how much I will be graded on if my paragraphs are fluid because both readers said they were still able to understand what was going on even with a sort of obvious transition between by 2 analyses. The other major comment I had was to include...

Blog Post #2

Santiago's Blog Post about privacy and security - https://jstr223.wixsite.com/website-3/post/data-surveillance-still-being-watched a new article I found - https://www.bullguard.com/bullguard-security-center/internet-security/social-media-dangers/privacy-violations-in-social-media While doing a little bit of internet surfing about Santiago's topic of privacy and security I found an article from an interesting source. This source is from a security company (certainly a stakeholder in this topic). While Santiago's post talks more about the legislation put in place (or lack thereof) protecting people's privacy, the article I found talks more about what type of breaches are happening. A new vocabulary word for me from the article I found was "data scraping". This essentially is just some third party company that buys or collects all the data from someone's social media or accounts. This data scraping takes record of their interactions with other users, their l...

Something I've been spending a lot of time doing recently (although I may regret it when I have major assignments due in a timely manner) is playing Pokemon. One of my friends has a Nintendo switch and has reintroduced me to Pokemon (one of my favorite games from when I was little). I was unaware that Pokemon games were still coming out, and now that they're on the Nintendo switch they look even better and feel so much smoother to play than on the original DS that I originally played on. However, I noticed while playing these new Pokemon games that they seemed much less challenging that previous games I played when they were released on the original DS. I wasn't sure at first whether this was due to my higher intelligence or if this was really something that the Pokemon franchise was doing on purpose. So, I took to the internet and found an article sort of discussing this issue as others have found this to be true as well. The article helps to discuss the idea of the who t...
